White Fillings Vs Silver Fillings

The Benefits of a White Filling

  • White Fillings require Less drilling of healthy tooth before being placed into a patients mouth
  • White Fillings adhere to the surface of the tooth meaning there is less chance of you losing the filling.
  • White Fillings are more cosmetically appealing, There is no unsightly metal or black fillings that can be seen when you smile or laugh.
  • A white composite filling can bond to the tooth  increasing the strength of the tooth as a whole.

The Disadvantages of metal Fillings
  • Metal fillings do not match the colour of your teeth.
  • There is more drilling of healthy tooth in order to fit the filling
  • Amalgam fillings can stain your tooth and discolour your gum over time.
  • Amalgam fillings contain mercury, which some people can be allergic to.

Adult Braces- Straighten your teeth in as little as 6 weeks

Modern Dental Braces have the advantage of not only being discrete but also in some cases have the ability to straighten ones teeth within a very short space of time. We have several options to straighten your teeth at our dentists surgery in Leicester, namely 6 month smiles and the Inman Aligner.

The Inman Aligner- removable brace, is designed to fit over the front teeth, offering specific alignment of only the front 4 teeth within 6-16 weeks and 6 month smiles is a fixed brace that can complete much more complex crowding of teeth in as little as 12-24 weeks. This is much less than the standard 2 years for conventional braces.

Both adult brace systems that the Windsor Dental Practice in Leicester has to offer are cosmetic braces, meaning that they are much less noticeable than the standard metal 'train track braces'.

When you visit our Dentist Surgery in Leicester we will advise you on the best treatment for you, whether it is fixed or removable braces that you want we offer both.

Current Adult braces are designed with ones comfort in mind and have very little impact on a patients day to day lifestyle. They are discrete and can straighten teeth quickly. if you are contemplating adult braces or orthodontic treatment please contact the windsor dental practice on 0116 266142

Are you a Nervous Patient?

Does your heart race when you pass a dental surgery? Do your feet tremble at the mere mention of a dentist? Has a friend or family member literally dragged you to a dentist's surgery? If yes, then you may be suffering from dental phobia. Don't worry; there are many people, just like you, who nurse fears about dentists.

We at Windsor Dental Practice pride ourselves on our ability to deal with anxious patients. We understand and empathise with you. We do not ever rush patients into any treatment and will always take what the patients wants done into account. We treat people before we treat teeth.

The first appointment with our nervous patients is usually spent carrying our a very minor check up, getting the patient accustomed to the dental chair. We will then usually rebook the patient for a very minor treatment, which in most cases will be a polishing of the teeth unless the patient allows us to do so in the first appointment. Any extensive treatment that is needed will be done in stages.

If it is the needle you fear, we have special numbing gels can be put on the gums so no pain is felt during the injection.

If you still suffer from fear after you first few appointments we will refer you to a specialist for care under sedation. We will never force a patient to have any treatment done and will always advise.

Internal Bleaching- How to improve the appearance of a darkened tooth

At the Windsor Dental practice we have a number of dentists with a keen interest in cosmetic dentistry.

Recently I had the pleasure of meeting and treating the patient in the picture below. Her chief complaint was that the upper tooth had turned black two years after having a root canal treatment done. The root canal had originally been done due to trauma that she had suffered as a child.

This patient had told me that she rarely smiles because of this darkened tooth and that she really wanted to have it fixed.

A number of options in terms of treatment were given to the patient of which one was Internal Bleaching of the tooth.

After 3 days of internal bleaching, this was the excellant result that we achieved :D.

The patient is very happy and now cant stop smiling.

If you have any queries do not hesitate to contact us.

Is Root Canal Treatment Painful???

We at Windsor Dental Practice Leicester pride ourselves on being able to treat all our patients with the up most care and quality whilst also minimising any pain felt during and after treatment.

A Root canal treatment is used to save a tooth that otherwise would need to be removed. It occurs when the small nerve inside the tooth becomes infected through decay or trauma.

What does the treatment involve?

1) The first appointment will involve making a small opening in the tooth followed by thoroughly cleaning  the tooth removing all infected tissue, disinfecting the tooth and then placing a antibacterial dressing in the tooth.

2) The second appointment will involve further disinfection of the tooth, followed by placing a filling (gutta percha) inside of the tooth to seal the root canal, thus preventing further bacterial invasion. A filling will then be placed in the cavity.
It is advisable for the patient to have a crown placed on the tooth following root canal treatment to strengthen the tooth following treatment

Generally no pain will be felt by the patient during root canal treatment. The patient will be numb throughout the treatment and if any discomfort is felt the dentist will try there best to make the patient more comfortable.

Done competently by someone who cares for the quality of the patient experience, root canal treatment should be a pain-free procedure with just local anaesthetic. Our Dentist in Leicester show will always strive to make your experience a pleasant one. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us via our website.
